Stephanie Reed MBE, our life long president passed away on the 22 January 2011, aged 89 years, at the Arden Nursing Home where she had been a resident for the past few years.
Steph started her first job at Warwick Hospital in 1946 when it had only 15 beds. She had trained in London where she helped new mothers in the bombed city.
On the introduction of the Health Service in 1948 she was quoted to have said, “We all felt it was a good thing and it meant we had better working terms.”
During the 1950s she was in charge of midwifery at Warwick Hospital and was appointed Assistant Matron. She went on to be the Matron of the Monroes Devis Maternity Home in Tiddington, where she remained until her retirement in 1977. Steph was awarded an MBE two years later for her services to Healthcare & Charity.
Steph was a very active member of The League of Friends since its inception in 1953, supporting many fundraising events. She was Chair for many years and was appointed President in 2000, in recognition of her long service and outstanding contribution.
